QIN-QIO Transition Information from Telligen & CMS

Telligen has been proud to serve as the Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) for the states of Colorado, Iowa, Illinois and Oklahoma for the last five years. As our current CMS 12th Statement of Work (SOW) ends in November 2024, we are reflecting on successes and accomplishments achieved through our close collaboration and partnership with providers and partners across these states. We have collectively achieved impressive and sustained results, and we are so grateful for your commitment to quality improvement to best serve your residents, patients and community members. Some key highlights from our work nationally include:

    • The QIN-QIOs worked with more than 11,600 nursing homes.
    • Rapid response COVID-19 reduction efforts led to 6,700 nursing home residents’ lives saved in the first year of the pandemic and continues to reduce COVID-19 infections among nursing home residents. Nursing homes who worked with QIN-QIOs had:
      • 25.2% fewer resident COVID-19 infections
      • 26.4% fewer resident hospitalizations
      • 24.3% fewer resident deaths
    • The QIN-QIOs had more than 40,000 one-on-one encounters as part of a targeted COVID-19 vaccine response.
    • Nursing home resident deaths from COVID-19 decreased by 55%.
    • Working with community partners, the emphasis on preventive health led to a 12.5% reduction in hospitalizations and 20% reduction in all-cause readmissions.

The QIO Program is the largest federal program focused on improving health quality at the community and provider level. As we await CMS decisions on the regional QIN-QIO contract awards for the 13th SOW, we maintain our commitment to you and will continue to offer resources and support through our contract-end in early November via our website or through your designated Telligen point of contact.

We hope to move forward as your go-to resource for quality improvement into the next five-year contract cycle and appreciate your patience during the transition. QIN-QIO support structures for the future will be organized into larger regions and will therefore offer enhanced opportunity for peer-to-peer collaboration and connection across larger geographic areas. CMS’s national design and work will continue in alignment with the CMS National Quality Strategy.

Again, it has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside your team as your QIN-QIO support contractor and we look forward to continuing our work together in the future. Please watch for further communication about future QIN-QIO support teams on our website, the QIO Program website and via our LinkedIn account.
